How to grow a money tree? Master these methods for lush branches and leaves

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
To grow a money tree, you need to give it soft, breathable, nutrient-rich, well-draining, slightly acidic potting soil, a temperature above 20°C, plenty of light, and a moderate amount of water. In addition, watch out for root rot, scale insects, and leaf blight. If you want to propagate it, you can use seeding or cuttings.

I. Growing environment

1. Potting soil. To grow a money tree well, you need to use soft, breathable, nutrient-rich, well-draining, slightly acidic potting soil. Never use alkaline potting soil.

2. Temperature. Normally maintain a temperature above 20°C, and in winter it must not drop below 5°C.

3. Light. If grown indoors, try to avoid direct sunlight, otherwise it will get sunburned. If grown outdoors, it can tolerate full sun, but in summer take care to provide appropriate shade.

4. Water. The money tree is very afraid of waterlogging. Normally wait until the potting soil is dry before watering, and water only a little when you do. Never water too much and cause water to accumulate in the potting soil.

II. Propagation methods

1. Seed propagation. After the money tree's fruit is fully ripe, use a tool to cut open the seed coat, then take out the seeds and sow them immediately after collecting. When sowing, you can use plain sand and evenly broadcast the seeds on the soil surface, taking care to keep a seed spacing of about 10 cm. Then cover with a thin layer of sand, 3-4 cm thick is enough. Finally, water it thoroughly and place it in a semi-shaded spot at around 25°C. After 7-10 days it will sprout.

2. Cutting propagation. Cut healthy, disease-free branches from a mature plant, insert them into the potting soil, then water thoroughly. Then cover them with a layer of insulating film, and after half a month they will sprout.

III. Common pests and diseases

1. Root rot. If the money tree's roots and stems become soft and rotten, it may have this disease. We need to take it out of the pot, cut off the rotten black roots, apply medicine to disinfect, let it dry, and then plant it into new, pathogen-free potting soil.

2. Scale insects. If the money tree has only a small number of scale insects, you can pick them off by hand or brush them off with a discarded toothbrush, then cut off the affected leaves and spray medicine to disinfect; if the number of scale insects is large, you should spray medicine directly to kill them.

3. Leaf blight. If the money tree's leaves dry up, it may have this condition. We need to promptly remove the diseased leaves, then water and fertilize scientifically.
