What to Do When Lucky Bamboo Leaves Turn Yellow? Detailed Causes and Solutions
1. Reduce light
Cause: When lucky bamboo is exposed to strong light for too long, yellow spots appear on the leaves, and the entire leaf looks yellow and loses its luster.
Solution: Move the lucky bamboo indoors to a spot with indirect light and care for it gradually.
2. Increase light
Cause: When lucky bamboo is kept in too shady a place for a long time, it does not get enough sunlight for photosynthesis, so the leaves cannot synthesize nutrients and turn yellow.
Solution: Move it to a place with plenty of light that is not too intense and care for it there.
3. Trim the roots and replant
Cause: Usually, watering too much or fertilizing too much will affect the roots of lucky bamboo. In mild cases, the roots turn black; in severe cases, the root system rots. Once the roots are damaged, the efficiency of nutrient absorption is directly affected, causing the leaves to lack nutrients and begin to turn yellow.
Solution: Take the lucky bamboo out of the water or soil, examine the roots, and use sterilized scissors to cut off the black and rotten roots. Then spray some medicine on the wounds to disinfect them, and place it in a cool, shady spot to dry. After the medicine dries, cultivate it again in a new medium.
4. Water more
Cause: Water is a raw material for the photosynthesis reaction in lucky bamboo. Once it lacks water, the leaves cannot carry out photosynthesis normally to synthesize nutrients, and thus turn yellow.
Solution: Water the lucky bamboo more to ensure an adequate water supply.
5. Supplement fertilizer
Cause: If lucky bamboo is not fertilized for a long time, the plant cannot obtain enough nutrients, and the leaves turn yellow without nutrients.
Solution: Apply some fertilizer to the lucky bamboo, but do not apply too much; apply light fertilizer frequently.
