Ever since people move into a new home, many of them buy a few plants when they furnish it. There are many plants suitable for growing at home, such as spider plant, snake plant, asparagus fern, succulents and so on. Many people just do not know what to grow. Today I would like to recommend a green plant to you - pothos (Epipremnum aureum), which is very suitable for growing at home. Let us take a look below.

Pothos belongs to the genus Epipremnum. It is a large evergreen vine that often climbs and grows on rocks and tree trunks in rainforests. It has strong twining ability and well-developed aerial roots, and can be grown hydroponically. On mature branches, the petiole is thick and strong, 30-40 cm long, slightly enlarged at the base; the upper joint is 2.5-3 cm long, slightly thickened, with a broad groove on the ventral side; the leaf sheath is long; the leaf blade is thinly leathery, emerald green, usually with many irregular pure yellow patches, inequilateral ovate or ovate-oblong, with a short acuminate apex and a deeply cordate base, slightly coarse, with both surfaces slightly raised. Overall, the leaves are still very green and good-looking.

Pothos is a shade-loving plant. It likes a hot and humid environment, avoids direct sunlight, and prefers shade. It likes soil rich in humus, loose and fertile, and slightly acidic. The temperature in winter should not be lower than 15°C. It survives as soon as it meets water, and because of its tenacious vitality it is called the "flower of life." Its trailing green branches and leaves are very easy to please. When grown indoors, whether in a pot or by breaking off a few stems and growing them hydroponically, it can grow well. You can let it climb on a column tied with palm fiber, or train it into a hanging form and place it in a study or on a windowsill, or simply grow it in a pot and set it out. It is one of the beautiful flowers very suitable for indoor cultivation.

Pothos can be propagated by cuttings and by burying stems, and terminal buds can also be rooted in water. The method is: cut a tender, strong stem vine 20 cm to 30 cm long as one section, insert it directly into a bottle filled with clean water, change the water once every 2 to 3 days, and in a little over 10 days it can take root and survive. Pothos is one of the very excellent indoor decorative plants. Its vines are slender and soft, and its leaves are delicate and elegant. After the trailing vines grow too long, they can be looped and hung into a ring, just like an emerald relief. In this way, it not only makes full use of space and purifies the air, but also adds a lively, brightly colored green decoration to a dull cabinet surface. It is full of vitality and adds a warm touch of charm to the room. So if you have not yet grown any plants, you might as well grow a pot of pothos!

Pothos is really powerful at purifying the air! Environmental scientists have found that one pot of pothos in a room of 8-10 sq m is equivalent to an air purifier, and can effectively absorb harmful gases in the air such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene. Its air-purifying ability is no less than that of ivy and spider plant, so pothos is very suitable for placing in a newly renovated room.

This plant, pothos, is very suitable for growing at home. It is beautiful and can purify the air. Do you have one at home yet? If not, then I suggest you quickly grow a pot! You are welcome to leave comments, like and follow.
