Cancer is not something that exists only today; it also existed in ancient times, and the same is true of lung cancer. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the understanding of lung cancer is classified respectively under categories such as lung accumulation, cough, chest pain, abdominal masses, and coughing blood, which mainly depends on which main symptom is most prominent. For example, the proportion of coughing blood in lung cancer is at least one third and at most more than half, while various conditions such as pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, and pneumonia are all prone to coughing blood, and some externally contracted diseases can also cause coughing blood, so differentiation is very important.

Lung cancer

Lung cancer, like other cancers, also requires a certain amount of time to gradually form, so first of all in terms of age, one should be around 30 to 40 years old and seeking treatment for coughing blood before lung cancer is considered. Next, it is necessary to understand the duration of the patient's other symptoms, the amount and form of the coughed blood, and other aspects for differentiation, or whether tests such as chest fluoroscopy have been done. If the patient has not had tests and the amount of coughed blood is not large, is bright red, or is mixed with frothy sputum, it is mostly early stage.

Repeated coughing blood is also one of the obvious symptoms of lung cancer. In terms of blood volume, very few cases involve massive coughing of blood; most lung cancer patients cough up only a small amount of blood, but the coughing blood may accompany the entire course of the disease. The appearance of coughing blood is also one of the reasons many lung cancer patients seek treatment. It may be entirely fresh blood, or blood mixed with sputum, or simply blood streaks in the sputum. These different symptom manifestations, combined with pulse conditions and tongue coating, can distinguish whether the case belongs to cold or heat, and so on.

In ancient medical works, there are many descriptions of the symptoms and treatments for lung accumulation, cough, chest pain, abdominal masses, and coughing blood. As early as in the Suwen, Qibing Lun, it says: "When there is fullness below the ribs and qi rushes upward..., the disease is called xi ji, and this does not interfere with eating." This should be early-stage lung cancer, or other lung diseases, so when there is accumulation and fullness it is the best time for treatment. If it reaches the stage described in the Suwen, Yuji Zhenzang Lun: "The large bones are withered, the large flesh is sunken, there is fullness of qi in the chest, difficulty breathing, fever with emaciation and broken flesh, and internal pain pulling at the shoulders and neck," then it is more difficult to treat.
