Pruning Kalanchoe can make it bloom more, and at the same time create a better environment, since good ventilation helps growth. You can also prune it appropriately for shape, so you get to enjoy both the flowers and the leaves. Let's take a look below at the pruning techniques for Kalanchoe.

Pruning time:

Generally, Kalanchoe is pruned in spring and autumn. After the flowers fade, prune once more to avoid further depletion of nutrients. The branches should be pruned before September, as this helps the second bloom.

Pruning techniques:

(1). Pruning length

For the first pruning, leave the Kalanchoe at a height of about 5CM, and later keep the height at around 12CM. This controls the height well, and also lets you prune away excess branches and leaves, ensuring an adequate nutrient supply while promoting the sprouting of new branches for better photosynthesis.

(2). What to prune

Any Kalanchoe branches taller than 12CM should be cut off, to maintain the plant's shape and also avoid nutrient depletion, which is good for blooming. Besides pinching and topping, you should also prune branches that normally turn yellow and wither, branches whose flowers have faded, branches that are too densely packed, and branches that spoil the shape.

(3). Pruning brings a second bloom

Proper pruning will make Kalanchoe bloom a second time. How do you prune Kalanchoe so it blooms? Cut off both the second pair of leaves below the branch and the flowering branch; after blooming, prune heavily.

(4). The Kalanchoe branches you cut off can be used for cuttings, quickly growing many tender shoots. You can take cuttings freely, and the survival rate is very high.
