Dahlias bloom beautifully and are so large that one look and you will never forget them. Keep one at home and its blooms are especially lovely, lighting up your balcony. But for such a large and beautiful flower, how should we normally care for it?

The dahlia's flowering period runs from May to mid-November. The flowering period is long, the blooms are large and numerous, so it generally needs more nutrients - even into the cool September, the flowers bloom even more brilliantly. Because the dahlia is a perennial flower, as long as temperature and humidity are suitable it can even bloom year-round, which shows its nutrient needs are relatively high.

If the dahlia is grown in a courtyard, it is not recommended to cut off spent flowers. Because in the yard, bees, butterflies and other small insects will pollinate it, so after the flowers fade, many seeds will form. Once the seeds are ripe, collect them and you can continue sowing them next year. The plants will bloom in the same year, a gorgeous display of brilliant colors - a very beautiful sight.

Watering

Because it has underground tubers, be careful to water sparingly and not too much, to prevent waterlogging and tuber rot, which can cause the plant's death. Generally, the principle of watering when wet and dry is enough.

Fertilizing

Before flowering, apply more phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. It is recommended to use potassium dihydrogen phosphate directly for fertilizing. You can dilute it at a ratio of 1:1000 and water it once every half month. Applying it two to three times is enough. It can promote flower bud differentiation, and the flower color, flower size, flowering period and quantity will all be greatly improved.

Soil

Dahlias are suited to fertile, loose, sandy soil. They should not get too much sun, as this will affect flowering. When the temperature is low, they can receive more sunlight.
