Nowadays, home orchid growing generally takes place on balconies and indoors. The growing environment on balconies and indoors is very different from the wild growing environment, and this is one of the important reasons why many flower lovers fail to grow orchids well. Because indoor and balcony air is dry and the humidity is not enough, it cannot meet the growth needs of orchids. Therefore, if you want to grow orchids well on balconies and indoors, you need to master the following aspects.

Wild orchids all grow in dense deep forests, where the ground surface is moist year-round without standing water, and water vapor keeps rising. The air humidity is suitable for orchid growth, while balconies and indoors are dry year-round, with insufficient humidity in spring and autumn, stuffy and windless conditions in summer, and unsuitable temperatures in winter. In response to this characteristic of orchids, you need to create a small environment suitable for their growth on the balcony or indoors. You can place a few basins of water around the orchids, and often spray water into the surrounding air. If conditions allow, you can use a humidifier to increase humidity, and the effect is very good.

When growing orchids on balconies and indoors, you can place bricks under the flower pots, soak the bricks in water, and then often pour a little water on the bricks so they do not dry out. Inside the pot, larger brick pieces can be used as a bottom drainage layer, with a thickness of 5--8 cm. This not only keeps good ventilation and air permeability inside the pot, but also keeps the potting soil moist, because brick pieces have the characteristics of absorbing water and retaining moisture, which can keep the potting soil moist without drying out. It can greatly reduce the occurrence of orchid root rot and dry leaf tips. Therefore, when growing orchids on balconies and indoors, you should try every possible method to make conditions as close to the natural environment as possible, so that the orchid plants grow vigorously and pests and diseases are reduced.

One thing to pay attention to when growing orchids indoors is that orchids are most afraid of coal smoke and air pollution. If they are exposed to coal smoke or cooking fumes, they will wither and die, so the care environment must be fresh. Common orchid diseases include anthracnose, rot, black spot, southern blight, and viral diseases. If diseased plants are found, the diseased plants should be removed immediately, and sprayed with 50% carbendazim wettable powder at 500 times dilution or 50% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 500 times dilution, once every 10 days, and spraying 3-4 times is enough. You can also spray 0.3%-0.5% Bordeaux mixture. Usually pay attention to ventilation and light transmission, and create a good growing environment for them.
