How do you care for a Christmas cactus so it blooms abundantly? Mastering these tips is all it takes
1. Light
To bloom abundantly, sufficient light is essential. But this does not mean the longer the light exposure, the better. On the contrary, this is a short-day plant, so the light period should not exceed ten hours. If flowering is poor, you can check whether its location is suitable.
Generally speaking, a bright spot indoors is the most suitable. The light is neither too strong nor too weak, which is just right for abundant blooming. However, after it blooms, to extend the flowering period, you can place it in a somewhat shadier spot. But once it gets dark, it should not be exposed to strong artificial light, as this is unfavorable for bud formation, and abundant blooming becomes out of the question.
2. Temperature
Naturally, the most suitable temperature favors abundant blooming. If the temperature is very low, it will take a very long time for it to produce flowers; if the temperature is too high, its flowering period will be relatively short. So overall, neither is favorable for abundant blooming. The best is a range of 15 to 25.
3. Water
The general principle is to provide the necessary water, but avoid waterlogging. Wait until the potting soil is fairly dry, then water again. Generally, once every seven to ten days; when temperatures are high, the frequency may be slightly higher.
4. Potting soil and fertilizer
The choice of potting soil is also very important for abundant blooming. It is best to choose loose soil that is rich in nutrients and drains well; these are the most basic requirements. According to its characteristics, there is one more requirement: it should be acidic. In addition, some base fertilizer should be placed at the bottom, such as some decomposed fertilizer or animal manure. Before the flowering period, to encourage abundant blooming, some phosphorus fertilizer should be used.
