What are the cultivation methods and precautions for crabapple?

Soil: To grow crabapple, use loose, nutrient-rich, slightly alkaline soil. Light: It needs plenty of light; no shading is needed except in midsummer. Water: Water according to the "dry-wet" principle - do not water when the soil is not dry, and water thoroughly when you do. Fertilizing: Apply some organic fertilizer in early spring; apply organic fertilizer as a top dressing in autumn, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer as a top dressing after the flowers fade; stop fertilizing in winter.

1. Soil

Crabapple prefers slightly alkaline soil, and the pH must not be lower than 7. In addition, the soil is required to be loose and rich in nutrients. You can mix some river sand into leaf mold to prepare its potting soil.

2. Light

Crabapple loves light and is not tolerant of shade, so it needs to be placed in a spot with plenty of light. Apart from shading it when the summer sunlight is too intense, it needs plenty of light at all other times.

3. Water

When watering crabapple, follow the "dry-wet" principle: do not water when the potting soil has not completely dried out, and water it once the soil has dried through. When watering, water thoroughly until water flows out of the drainage holes. In addition, on rainy days it is best not to water, and any accumulated water in the pot should be drained promptly.

4. Fertilizing

In early spring, apply some organic fertilizer to crabapple to supply it with nutrients; in autumn, apply organic fertilizer as a top dressing, and after the flowers fade, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer as a top dressing; once the weather turns cold in winter, stop fertilizing. You can choose some fertilizers specially formulated for crabapple.

5. Precautions

1. Drain promptly. After watering thoroughly, drain any accumulated water promptly, otherwise the crabapple will suffer root rot. You can drain the water by propping up the flower pot or placing it in a well-ventilated spot.

2. Pay attention to ventilation. When growing crabapple, make sure to ventilate it promptly; do not keep it in an overly enclosed environment, otherwise it will struggle to grow normally.
