Pennywort (Hydrocotyle vulgaris) has round leaves and stays evergreen for three seasons of the year, and it carries a very auspicious meaning. Placing a pot of pennywort in the living room, on the balcony, in the study, or on a computer desk looks especially fresh and full of artistic mood. How can you grow pennywort so its leaves are plump and round, glossy green, and very vigorous? Here is a little tip:

On one hand, whether you grow it indoors or outdoors, it must get plenty of sun, just like the little lotus leaves in a pond: the more sun they get, the better they grow. It cannot be kept indoors for a long time, or its leaves will be rather small and not green enough.

On the other hand, whether it is grown in water or in soil, keep replenishing water and watering it continuously. Once it lacks water, if you forget to water it for a few days, the leaves will dry up. But do not worry: if you forget to water it for one or two days and the pennywort leaves bend down, water it right away, and within a few hours they will stand back up.

Also, keep replenishing nutrients and fertilizer. For water culture, you can give some nutrient solution or organic fertilizer liquid; for soil culture, add some pond mud, leaf mold, or peat soil. The richer the soil, the better. Only then can the leaves grow bigger.

A friend of mine grew pennywort and switched soil-grown pennywort to water culture, then also put two small goldfish into the water-culture tank.

The fish live leisurely and contentedly beneath the pennywort. The fish eat the impurities and debris in the water, and the fish droppings become fertilizer for the pennywort, a very good ecological environment. The pennywort grows lush and beautiful.

To grow pennywort, as long as there is plenty of fertilizer, plenty of sunlight, and plenty of water, and it is placed in a ventilated spot, it can fill the pot with growth in three months.

In May and June, it will also gradually produce small white flowers.
