How to Grow Snake Plants? Detailed Guide to Care Methods and Precautions
I. Soil
The most important thing about the soil for growing snake plants is that it must have good drainage capacity; besides that, it would be even better if it is somewhat loose and fertile. So we can mix peat soil, leaf mold, sandy soil and perlite in a 4:3:2:2 ratio to grow it, or we can prepare its soil using garden soil:leaf mold:sandy soil = 5:2:3.
II. Water
Snake plants belong to the type that fears waterlogging but not drought, so when watering we should prefer less rather than more, and prefer dry rather than wet. Apart from spring when it grows new leaves and the potting soil needs to stay moist, it is better to keep the soil on the dry side in other seasons.
III. Light
Although snake plants have a certain tolerance for shade, they grow better under sufficient sunlight. Normally it is best to place it under the sun to receive direct sunlight; there is no need to worry that it will get sunburned.
IV. Temperature
Snake plants like to grow under conditions of 20-30°C. When the temperature drops at the end of the year, move it indoors and adjust the temperature to above 5°C. In summer, take measures to cool it down and keep the temperature below 30°C.
V. Precautions
1. Do not expose it to light suddenly. Generally speaking, we place snake plants in places with less sufficient light, such as desks and living rooms. After growing for a long time, it gradually adapts to this environment; if it is suddenly exposed to strong sunlight at this time, it will have adverse reactions.
2. Repot in time. Snake plants grow relatively fast. When you find that it has filled a pot, repot it in a slightly larger new pot in time to ensure it has enough growing space.
