How do you care for Rieger begonia to get a full, overflowing pot? All the care tips are here

Keep the flower pot breathable, use a potting soil based mainly on peat moss and vermiculite, and provide diffused light. In winter the temperature should stay above 5°C, and it must not be exposed to freezing. Water appropriately, pinch off the growing tips regularly to encourage side branches to sprout, remove excess flower buds, and prune the old branches appropriately, and it will grow into a full, overflowing pot.

1. Breathable flower pot

When growing it, the flower pot you choose should ideally have small holes in the bottom to ensure breathability. When choosing potting soil, use one based mainly on peat moss and vermiculite, so that good drainage is guaranteed.

2. Diffused light

Although Rieger begonia likes sunlight, it must not be exposed to direct sun, otherwise it will get scorched. So during normal care, you can place it in a spot with diffused light, so it can enjoy the light without getting scorched.

3. Keep it warm in time

It is very afraid of cold, especially in winter, so it is best to move it back indoors for care in advance. Keep the temperature at around 5°C, and it can safely get through the winter. If in some areas the temperature cannot be maintained at this level in winter, you need to cover it with plastic film to keep it warm, or use other good warming methods.

4. Water appropriately

Although its reproductive ability is extremely strong, if it is not cared for properly, it is also very easy to die, especially when it comes to watering. When watering it normally, first check whether the potting soil is very dry, then check whether the leaves have gone soft, and finally check whether the whole plant looks lively. If these three conditions are met, it means it is time to water, and it will recover after one night. At the same time, choose the watering time according to the weather. If it is summer, evening or morning is best, and the amount of water should be based on the moisture level of the potting soil. If it is winter, watering is best at noon on a sunny day, and make sure the water temperature is close to room temperature, to prevent water that is too cold from affecting the roots and causing them to rot. In addition, the air in winter is drier, so you should raise the indoor humidity, for example with a spray bottle, but do not spray water mist onto the flowers.

5. Pinch appropriately

During its growing season, pinch it appropriately, so that more side branches can grow and the plant shape becomes fuller. At the same time, remove excess flower buds to prevent nutrients from being lost and affecting flower development.

6. Prune appropriately

When autumn comes, it will grow new branches from the base. When they reach a certain height, you need to use scissors to cut off its old branches, and increase the amount of water to promote its growth, and it will soon grow into a full, overflowing pot.
