What kind of flower pot is best for a Christmas cactus? A detailed guide to pot selection
1. Choosing a pot
When choosing a pot, there are several factors we must consider. The first is breathability. The second is depth, around 15 cm is better. It should not be too deep, nor too shallow. The third is drainage, and it is best to have holes in the bottom. Generally speaking, among all types of pots, the purple clay pot is the best choice. It has many advantages: it has the breathability of an earthenware pot, and its drainage is also good. Moreover, it is relatively attractive, which helps enhance the plant's ornamental value. However, besides choosing the pot, what matters more is the type of soil inside and the care that follows.
2. Care tips
(1) Soil: This plant likes fertile, loose soil. Specifically, you can use three parts garden soil, four parts leaf mold, and three parts sand to mix it. In addition, there is another mix: peat soil, leaf mold, sand, and perlite, in a ratio of 2:1:1:1. Also, before actual use, it needs to be sterilized, for example by exposing it to the sun for a few days.
(2) Temperature: At different stages, the specific temperature requirements are also somewhat different. For example, in the growing state, the best temperature range is 10 to 28°C. If it is in the flowering period, then the requirement is higher, at 15 to 25°C.
(3) Light: It is best to maintain sufficient light every day, for 8 to 10 hours. Especially during the growth period and the flowering period, if there is not enough, it is best to supplement with sunlight.
(4) Water: It likes moisture, and the water must be sufficient. During high temperatures, water once every two or three days. In winter, you can change to once a week.
