Reasons and Solutions for Yellowing Leaves on Rieger Begonia
1. Moisture
1. Lack of water
Cause: When you notice its leaves turning yellow, you need to check whether it is lacking water. The obvious sign is that the entire plant gradually begins to turn yellow, and this situation is extremely common.
Solution: There are two ways to solve a lack of water. The first is to add water to the flowerpot in time to ensure sufficient moisture. The second is to sprinkle a little water on the leaves, and before long the leaves will recover, but never pour cold water when the temperature is high.
2. Waterlogging
Cause: Although it likes a very humid environment, if it is watered too much, water will accumulate, and if the roots stay soaked in water for a long time, they will rot, which will then cause the leaves to start turning yellow.
Solution: When the leaves turn yellow, first pick off the yellow leaves, then loosen the soil in the pot, and place it in a ventilated spot to let the roots breathe. After about 10 days, the plant will return to normal, but when watering again you must be careful and absolutely must not let water accumulate in the pot.
2. Light
Cause: Although it likes sunlight, it cannot be exposed to the sun for too long, nor for too short a time, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow.
Solution: When the leaves turn yellow, if it is caused by insufficient light, give it appropriate sun exposure every morning. If it is caused by too much light, move it to a shady place and sprinkle it with an appropriate amount of water to replenish moisture for the plant.
3. Fertilizing
Cause: Although it likes fertilizer and is basically given a top dressing every month, otherwise it will suffer from malnutrition and the leaves will begin to turn yellow. However, when fertilizing, the concentration must not be too high, because this will cause nutrient excess, the plant will start growing wildly, and the leaves will also begin to turn yellow. This is what is caused by fertilizer burn.
Solution: First, promptly rinse the potting soil with water and remove the excess fertilizer solution, or replace part of the soil. In order for its leaves to return to normal as soon as possible, also give it an appropriate amount of water.
4. Pests and diseases
Cause: If none of the above situations are causing the yellowing leaves, then you need to check whether it is caused by pests.
Solution: If the leaves turn yellow due to pests and diseases, you need to care for it carefully, apply medication promptly, and cut off the parts that have already been damaged by disease.
