Parlor palm, also known as beautiful bamboo palm, miniature bamboo, dwarf coconut, dwarf palm, living room palm, happy palm, parlor palm palm, and miniature palm. An evergreen small shrub of the genus Chamaedorea in the palm family, with potted height generally not exceeding 1 m. Its stems are upright, with irregular markings. Native to northern Mexico and Guatemala, the genus contains about 120 species, mainly distributed in the tropical regions of Central America. It prefers high temperature, high humidity and a semi-shaded environment. The optimum growth temperature is 20-30°C; it enters dormancy at 13°C, and the overwintering temperature is 10°C. The plant is short, and its Latin species name "elegans" means beautiful. Because its plant form closely resembles a tropical coconut tree and its shape is small, delicate and beautifully distinctive, it is named parlor palm. Combined with its tolerance of shade, it is very suitable as a small to medium-sized indoor potted plant.

An evergreen small shrub, with potted height generally not exceeding 1 m. Its stems are upright, unbranched, dark green, with irregular markings. The leaves generally grow at the top of the stems, pinnately parted, with lanceolate leaflets, alternate, dark green and glossy. They are 14-22 cm long and 2-3 cm wide; the bases of the top two pinnae are often fused into a fishtail shape; young leaves are green, old leaves are dark green, and the surface is glossy, like a wax product. The spadix is axillary, with yellow flowers in small globular clusters, dioecious; the male inflorescence is slightly upright, while the female inflorescence droops slightly under good nutritional conditions; the berries are orange-yellow. The flowering period is spring.

Greening and ornamental:

The parlor palm plant is small and exquisite, with a graceful plant form and elegant bearing; the leaves are deep green and bright, and the leaf blades are flat. A mature plant is umbrella-shaped, dignified and stately, simple yet elegant, with unrestrained leaves, smooth and crystalline, giving people a feeling of sincerity, simplicity and full vitality, and possessing high ornamental value.

Decorating rooms:

Parlor palm tolerates shade, so it is very suitable as a small to medium-sized indoor potted plant, placed on a desk or tabletop as a treasured display, and also suitable for hanging indoors to decorate the space, adding a tropical atmosphere and charm to the room. Placed in a corner of a room or on a coffee table, it can add a lively atmosphere to the interior and give the room a charming tropical scenery.

Purifying air:

Parlor palm is the smallest type of coconut-like plant. Its plant form closely resembles a tropical coconut tree, and its shape is small and distinctive. Placed indoors, it presents a unique tropical style, and at the same time can purify benzene, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde from the air, and has a certain bactericidal function. Its transpiration efficiency is high, which helps increase the indoor negative ion concentration, and it can also raise the humidity of the room, benefiting our skin and breathing. Because parlor palm can improve indoor air quality, it is called a "high-efficiency air purifier" among living things, and is very suitable for placement indoors or in newly renovated rooms.
