Cultivation and care of the variegated rubber plant: green leaves and variegation make it even more beautiful
The variegated rubber plant is also known as the colored-leaf rubber plant. It is a horticultural variety of the rubber plant. The leaves are about 30 cm long, long ovate, dark green, leathery and glossy. On the leaf surface there are yellow and white striped markings and spots, the underside is light green, and the whole plant contains milky sap. The variegated rubber plant has broad, glossy leaves with beautiful colored markings, and a full yet stately tree form; it is also known as the colored-leaf rubber plant.
Rubber plant: detailed illustrated guide to rubber plant cutting techniques
The variegated rubber plant has thick, leathery leaves and can tolerate fairly strong sunlight, but if exposed to direct sun in the hot summer, the leaf surface will lose its gloss, while too much shade will cause leaf drop. Therefore, in summer, pay attention to providing appropriate shade and avoid direct strong light, so as to keep the leaves deep green and the stipules bright red.
During the growing period, watering should follow the principle of "alternating dry and wet, mainly wet." The amount of watering depends on the temperature: water requirements are greater in spring and summer, while during the winter dormant period only a small amount of water is needed.
It does not have high requirements for air humidity, but if water can be sprayed once each in the morning and evening in summer, the leaf surface can be kept fresh. In winter, indoor dust is more abundant, so the leaves also need to be sprayed and washed once every 5-7 days with clean water close to room temperature. From the time new leaves unfold until the end of September, apply a dilute liquid fertilizer mainly based on nitrogen fertilizer once every 2-3 weeks; after October, generally no more fertilizer is applied.
Rubber plant: prevention and control of common rubber plant pests and diseases
Usually repot once every two years (using the same potting soil as for the rubber plant). During the dormant period, it is advisable to keep the temperature above 12°C. Soilless cultivation can also be used for growing the variegated rubber plant, and its growth is even better.
