What are the characteristics of the fig's growth habits?

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
The fig is a woody plant. Its fruit is sweet and tart, and many people like to grow it in pots at home so they can eat the delicious fruit.

Other names for the fig

In Uyghur, the fig is called Anjir, meaning "sugar buns that grow on a tree." It also has the alternative names milk-fruit, honey-fruit, and Tian Sheng Zi.

Origin of the name "fig"

The fig's flowers are not obvious; they are inside the internal ovary and are not visible on the surface, which is why it is called the fig (literally "flowerless fruit"). But in fact, the fig does still have flowers.

The fig's growth habits

The fig likes a warm, humid climate. It likes light and is not cold-tolerant; at a temperature of -12°C it will suffer cold damage, and if it gets colder still, it will die. The fig likes ample fertilizer and is relatively drought-tolerant, but it is not tolerant of waterlogging. The fig can tolerate poor, thin soil and has fairly strong adaptability to soil, though fertile sandy soil is best.
