Bamboo morphological characteristics

Bamboo is a perennial monocotyledonous plant, evergreen all year round. Mature bamboo produces horizontal branches; the bamboo leaves are sword-shaped, tapering to a point at the tip and blunt at the base. One side of the bamboo leaf edge is relatively smooth, while the other side has small serrations; the leaf veins are parallel, the leaf surface is dark green, and the underside is lighter in color. The leaves of young plants grow directly from the stem; the underground stem of bamboo is an organ that stores nutrients and has a strong reproductive capacity. It grows horizontally, and many fibrous roots and buds grow on its nodes; under normal circumstances, bamboo only flowers and sets seed after growing for 12 to 120 years, and it flowers and sets seed only once in its lifetime.

Bamboo growth habits

Most bamboo likes a warm and humid climate. With an annual average temperature of 12°C-22°C and annual precipitation of 1000 mm-2000 mm, bamboo grows relatively fast; bamboo has low requirements for soil, but soil with good air permeability and drainage is best; bamboo has requirements for water, needing both sufficient moisture and good drainage. The nodes on the underground stem of bamboo grow rapidly after a spring rain, and these are spring bamboo shoots.
