What makes Aloe nobilis so unique? Let us explain in detail
Common names of Aloe nobilis
Aloe nobilis is also called "Da Cui Pan" and "Gao Shang Lu Hui" (noble aloe).
Habits of Aloe nobilis
Aloe nobilis belongs to the Liliaceae family, genus Aloe, and winter is its period of vigorous growth.
Native to South Africa. It prefers a warm, arid, dry and sunny environment. It grows best at 15-25°C; below zero it will suffer frost damage,10and at around °C growth nearly stops.
For home care, it is usually propagated by division and cuttings. Common pests and diseases include: gray mold and whitefly
Care tips for Aloe nobilis
Repotting: repot every year in early spring. Because Aloe nobilis has a well-developed root system, it needs repotting once a year. The potting soil should be a loose, fertile, well-draining, well-aerated sandy soil; you can use 2parts leaf mold or peat soil, and 2 parts sand or vermiculite,1parts garden soil, plus a small amount of decomposed bone meal or plant ash as a base fertilizer.
Watering: water sparingly right after planting; during the growing season you can water a bit more and keep the potting soil moist. When the weather is dry, you can mist the leaves, but the potting soil should not be overly wet. In summer, when temperatures are too high, it enters dormancy, so watering should be controlled. In winter, reduce watering and keep the potting soil dry.
Fertilizing: during the growing season, fertilize once every half monthtime.
Light and temperature: it likes full, bright but gentle all-day sunlight. The day length and intensity in spring and autumn are most suitable for its growth. For home potted plants, in spring and autumn it can be placed on a balcony to receive direct sunlight; in summer, place it in a well-ventilated semi-shaded spot; in winter, place it indoors in a sunny spot for care.
Propagation methods of Aloe nobilis
Division: from 3-4months, separate the densely growing young plants around the mother plant and plant them. If the young plants have few or no roots, they can first be inserted into a sand bed, and after rooting, pot them up.
Cuttings: from 5-6months, after flowering, cut off a short stem tip10~15cm long; after the cut surface dries, insert it into a sand bed. Do not water too much; after insertion, it will root in about2weeks.
Suggested planting combinations: Euphorbia tirucalli, silver hand ball cactus
Note: after Aloe nobilis is exposed to rain, its leaves easily turn yellow and rot.
