Habits of Conophytum
Conophytum is a succulent plant of the genus Conophytum in the family Aizoaceae, and winter is its vigorous growth period.
Conophytum is native to Namibia and South Africa, and likes warm, low-humidity, sunny environments. The most suitable temperature for growth is17~25°C. During the growth period, place the plant in a bright spot for care, and keep the potting soil slightly moist.
Conophytum fears high temperature and excessive humidity in summer, so pay attention to timely shading and cooling. It fears cold in winter, so move it indoors for care.
Common propagation methods include sowing, cuttings, and division.
Planting and care tips for Conophytum
Care tips for Conophytum
Watering: During the growing season (winter) of Conophytum, keep the potting soil slightly moist. In summer, when temperatures are high and light is intense, reduce watering. After autumn begins and the weather turns slightly cooler, appropriately increase the frequency of watering and keep the potting soil slightly moist. Spring is the leaf growth period, so avoid exposure to direct sunlight and do not let the potting soil become too wet.
Fertilizing: During the growing period of Conophytum, fertilize once a month with diluted cake fertilizer water or organic fertilizer specially formulated for succulents.
Repotting: Repot once every two years, and when replanting, it is better to plant shallowly rather than deeply. After repotting, spread a layer of vermiculite or perlite on the surface to increase the drainage of the soil.
Propagation methods of Conophytum
Sowing:4~5month or9~10month, sow indoors in pots, keep the temperature at18~24°C, and germination occurs about10days after sowing.
Cuttings:5~6month, cut off plump fleshy spherical leaves, cut them open from the top, place them in a cool place until the wound is slightly dry, then insert them into a sand bed, keep the room temperature at20~22°C, and they will root14~17days after insertion.
Division:3Plants more than years old can be propagated by division. In spring, together with repotting, break off the offsets from the base of the mother plant and plant them in separate pots.
Suggested planting combinations: Lithops, Conophytum.
