Sea lavender origin
Sea lavender is native to Russia, Bulgaria, and the Caucasus, among other places. In China, it is mainly distributed on hillsides and meadow saline soils in the Northeast, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and other areas.
Sea lavender morphological characteristics
The entire sea lavender plant is hairless and about 15-60 cm tall. The leaves are basal, light green or grayish-green in color, oblong in shape, with slightly blunt or acute leaf tips; the lower part of the leaf gradually narrows to form a flat petiole, arranged in a rosette. Sea lavender has umbel-like or panicle-like inflorescences, a funnel-shaped calyx, a calyx tube about 1 mm in diameter, a yellow corolla, blue-purple petals, and filiform stigmas. The fruit is yellowish-brown and obovate. The flowering period is from July to November in the north and from April to December in the south.
Sea lavender growth habits
Sea lavender prefers a cool climate environment and strong light, and flowers well after low-temperature treatment. The low temperature is between 10-16°C. If the plant is subjected to low-temperature treatment during the seedling stage, later high temperatures will not affect flowering; if the seedlings are not subjected to low-temperature treatment and are directly grown under high temperatures, flowering will be noticeably inhibited or the plant will not flower.
Sea lavender flower language and culture
The flower language of sea lavender is "nestling close" and "forever following," and it is usually given as a companion flower to well-known flowers, perfectly matching its flower language: not competing, not clamoring, and taking things calmly.
