Executive Yuan Five-Ministry Restructuring Plan Finalised, Water Resources, Forest Conservation, and Central Weather Bureau to Be Included in the Ministry of Environment and Resources

The final piece of the Executive Yuan's organisational restructuring puzzle has been assembled. At today's (3rd) post-Executive Yuan meeting press conference, it was decided that the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economic and Energy Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment and Resources (abbreviated as the Ministry of Environment and Resources), and the Ministry of Transportation and Construction - five ministries in total - have completed comprehensive planning; among them, the Ministry of Environment and Resources will incorporate the water resources conservation functions of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the forest conservation functions of the Council of Agriculture, and the Central Weather Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation into its portfolio.

Shih Neng-chieh, Minister of the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration of the Executive Yuan, stated, "The Ministry of Environment and Resources can be said to be a newly established ministry within the restructuring, not entirely equivalent to the former Environmental Protection Administration."

Draft Restructuring Plans for Five Ministries Submitted to the Legislative Yuan to Accelerate Legislation

The Executive Yuan has now made its decision, confirming that the Ministry of Transportation will be restructured into the "Ministry of Transportation and Construction," the Ministry of Economic Affairs will be restructured into the "Ministry of Economic and Energy Affairs," the Environmental Protection Administration will be upgraded to the "Ministry of Environment and Resources," and the Council of Agriculture will be upgraded to the "Ministry of Agriculture"; the draft will subsequently be submitted to the Legislative Yuan for executive-legislative coordination. The Executive Yuan stated it hopes to accelerate the completion of the legislative work on the organisational laws of the new agencies.
