The rose is the queen of flowers, and very many people grow it. Since it can be propagated by cuttings, with just 1 mother plant you can easily have a small garden. Rose cuttings can basically be taken in all four seasons, and the chance of success is even higher when the temperature does not exceed 30 degrees. But many people find that rose cuttings rot easily, so what can we do to improve the chance of success?

For rose cuttings you need a mother plant, and the mother plant is the rose plant chosen for taking cuttings. Of course, if you don't have one, you can get a few branches from old Wang next door. If you don't have any, go buy a few plants, and once they grow big you can start taking cuttings. Soaking them in a bit of organic nutrient solution when taking cuttings can improve the chance of success.

Generally, rose cuttings are taken in winter. The higher the temperature, the more active the bacteria, so rotting is easy. But as long as you master good methods, you can still easily succeed with cuttings.

Below I'll share the experience of a flower grower friend; I think it is very practical and simple, and those who like it can give it a try.

Prepare the mother plant for cuttings and the needed tools

If you like roses (Rosa multiflora), you can choose one plant and simply cut a few sections from it. Rosa multiflora likes sunlight, also tolerates partial shade, and is fairly cold hardy; it can overwinter outdoors in most areas of northern China. It is not strict about soil, tolerates drought and poor soil, but grows better when planted in deep, loose, fertile, moist yet well-drained soil, and can also grow normally in heavy clay soil.

The cutting container must be permeable to water

You can use an electric soldering iron, or just forcefully dig a few holes. This step is mainly to prevent water from accumulating and to increase airflow. It is very beneficial for the growth of the rose root system.

Disinfect the scissors

Cuttings need trimming, and at this point our tool, the scissors, needs to be properly disinfected. Commonly you can soak them in carbendazim solution, or use alcohol, or even burn them with fire.

Cutting the branches

It is not advisable to choose long branches; long branches must be cut into short branches, which makes success easier.

Second, the leaves on the branch should not be left too many, because the more leaves, the greater the consumption. For a rose that has not yet produced roots, this is not a good thing.

Use a good substrate for cuttings

90% of failed cuttings are due to choosing an unsuitable substrate. Some people like to use nutrient soil, but if the choice is wrong, rotting is very easy. Common sand cuttings are also not bad, and today this flower grower friend uses akadama or maifan stone specially for succulents. This kind of soil is granular, has good airflow and high mineral content, and is also very suitable for cuttings.

Disinfection

Plant ash has a certain disinfecting effect, so put some on the plant. It can effectively prevent rotting, thereby improving the chance of success. Basically 98% of people overlook this point, so there is a reason why people fail.

Maintain a certain amount of water and humidity, which is good for the rose to produce roots. Generally, roots can develop in 15 days. After rooting, using nutrient solution on the rose can quickly explode roots and sprout buds, so the small cutting seedling easily grows big.

Doing this, isn't it easy to go from 1 to 100? As long as you have a yard, it can easily become a rose garden. When it comes time to bloom, it will burst the pot and fill the house with fragrance, a kind of fragrant feeling; does anyone want that? Hurry up and give it a try.
