If you want to make some practical flower pots in all kinds of shapes yourself, then making some cement flower pots is a good choice. After reading the specific steps below, even beginners can easily make beautiful concrete flower pots. Let's take a look at the techniques for making them.

The first thing in making a cement flower pot is to prepare suitable molds. You can use discarded bowls and plates, cardboard, milk cartons, or buy special molds. The size of the cement flower pot you make depends on the size of the mold, and you should also choose different specifications according to the plant you want to grow. Let's look at the method.

1. Choose suitable molds

The flower pot above was made with two molds of different sizes. The two molds can be of different shapes. Before making it, you can choose the shape and material of the molds. There needs to be a certain gap between the smaller mold and the larger mold, so that the finished cement pot has a certain thickness.

You can use ordinary cardboard to make the flower pot model. Prepare two cardboard molds of different sizes or shapes and you can move on to the next step.

2. Spray the molds

After choosing the shape and material of the molds, the next step is to spray a mist of lubricant or mineral oil onto the molds. This is very necessary, as it makes the cement flower pot you make easier to remove. Especially when using glass molds, if no lubricant is sprayed, the mold you use will basically be single-use.

3. Prepare the concrete

The next step is to mix the cement well. You can mix and stir the concrete in a wheelbarrow or on flat ground. It is best to use some crack-resistant concrete to make sure the concrete flower pot you make does not break easily.

After preparing the materials, pour the cement onto flat ground, add clean water and river sand and stir appropriately. Mix the ratio according to the instructions until it becomes a paste, then you can put it into the large mold.

Note:

When making cement flower pots, you must wear gloves, otherwise you can easily hurt your hands. Cement is harmful to the skin.

4. Decorate the cement flower pot

When making a cement flower pot, you can add all kinds of creativity to make the cement pot you make more beautiful and practical. The bottom of the container definitely needs holes, and you should leave a fairly large drainage hole. The rim of the pot can be decorated with various materials such as pebbles, glass beads, and shells. If you have painting materials, you can also decorate the cement pot with various patterns; decorating it with some geometric patterns works very well.

5. Pour the concrete into the molds

Making small cement flower pots is not very difficult. As long as you prepare suitable molds and leave a small hole at the bottom, they will dry quickly. But making larger cement flower pots is a bit harder, because they need two days to dry.

When making a large cement flower pot, you also pour the cement directly into the mold. You can spray lubricant at the bottom drainage hole and embed pebbles, then take the pebbles out once it dries slightly.

Of course, you can also wait until the cement pot is dry before drilling the holes. After putting in the cement, smooth the surface, then put in the small mold to create the bottom shape of a cement pot. The large mold needs to be slid left and right to make sure there are no air bubbles on the rim of the finished cement pot. The thickness of the pot is determined by the gap between the large mold and the small mold.

6. Let the flower pot dry

This is the last step in making a cement flower pot. You should let the cement flower pot dry for at least more than a day to make sure the cement pot you make has strong hardness. After it is completely dry, you can take out the small mold inside. If you made the mold from cardboard, you can just peel it off; if it is made of glass, just smash it.

Finally, let the cement flower pot air-dry. After a week, wipe it with a wet cloth or sponge to moisten the cement pot, then wait two more days and moisten it again. After that, you can drill the holes and use it.

7. Plant the plants

These are all fresh and bright cement flower pots. Don't they look very nice? The shape of the flower pot actually depends on the mold you use; those with patterns will be a bit more unique.

However, plants grown in cement pots easily absorb heat, so do not place them in a spot with too strong light, otherwise the plants can easily be scorched.
