Many flower lovers envy the good-looking succulents in Yunnan and just copy the care methods they find online and apply them to their own succulents. In fact, there are climate differences between the north and the south, so copying them directly will not work. Today, Huahua will explain based on the differences between north and south how friends in the north and south should manage their succulents.

The south enters the summer-survival stage

Taking Nanjing, Jiangsu as an example, the daytime high temperature is close to 30 degrees, and it is clearly about to enter the rhythm of summer. Therefore, friends in the south need to start getting their succulents through the summer.

1. Shade

The sunlight in the south is relatively strong now, so it is best to place succulents in the shade of a south-facing balcony (windowsill), or use a shade net to block the light, providing succulents with a relatively cool summer-survival environment with weaker sunlight.

Note: Do not worry that the succulents will not look good after shading and then leave them outdoors in full sun. This can easily cause sunburn. Once sunburned, it takes a long time for them to recover.

2. Good ventilation

Good ventilation is also an important condition for succulents to get through the summer. Good ventilation can prevent bacteria from breeding, speed up water evaporation, and avoid a hot and humid environment. It is recommended that flower lovers in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and the southwestern region can equip themselves with small fans.

Note: Friends who like to mist succulents to cool them down must do so under good ventilation conditions, and it is best to blow dry any water droplets that accidentally fall into the center of the leaves.

3. Watering

Try to choose to water in the evening or at night. The lack of light and the ventilation at night make it easy for water to evaporate and not easy for water to accumulate.

Note: Be sure not to water at noon or in the afternoon. When watering, be careful not to water into the leaf core, otherwise water will accumulate on the leaves, and together with direct sunlight, it can easily cause leaf burn.

4. Prepare loose, breathable soil

Soil is also an important condition for succulents to successfully get through the summer. Coarse sand and peat soil can be mixed at a ratio of 7:3. This kind of soil is loose and breathable, and not prone to water accumulation.

Note: Friends who cannot control their watering and like to water a lot can appropriately increase the granules in the soil to enhance water permeability, so as to avoid root rot caused by water accumulation.

Coloring succulents in the north

Now, the temperature in the north is gradually stabilizing, and the light has also improved. At this time, succulents can be moved outside to bask in the sun and color up~

1. Bask in the sun

First place the succulents on a balcony behind a window to receive light, and remember to open the window for ventilation. After about two weeks of adaptation, move the succulents to a sunny place to bask in the sun.

Note: Never move indoor succulents directly to a place with direct sunlight. This makes it difficult for succulents to adapt to the sudden change in environment and leads to sunburn. Try to avoid direct sunlight from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

2. Watering

Succulents at this stage are in a period of rapid growth, so timely watering is very necessary. The soaking method can be used: place the flowerpot in water for three to five minutes, and when no bubbles come out at all, it means the soil has been thoroughly soaked.

Note:

1. On cloudy days, reduce watering or even do not water, because insufficient light and excessive water will cause succulents to become leggy.

2. If the leaves are found to be wrinkled and uneven, it indicates that the succulents are short of water. Water immediately until water flows out from the bottom of the pot.

3. Temperature difference

Light and temperature difference are the two great secrets for coloring succulents. In spring, the temperature difference itself is about 10 degrees, so if you want them to color up, just gradually move the succulents outdoors.

Note: Although the temperature in the north is gradually stabilizing now, be sure to pay attention to the weather forecast to avoid frostbite to succulents caused by a sharp drop in temperature.
