How to manage orchids during the flowering period? Detailed care methods and key points
1. Humidity
From the time the buds begin to emerge until they open, the soil in the pot should be neither too dry nor too wet. When the soil turns slightly pale, you can water it with the usual amount. Especially when the temperature is relatively high, or the humidity is low and the wind is strong, simply mist it lightly to add humidity.
2. Light
If the flowers are not growing upright during the flowering period, you should promptly turn them to give more even light exposure, so the shape looks better. Once the flowers open, only diffused light is needed, because light that is too strong will scorch them, while light that is too weak will prevent the color from becoming vivid red. It is best to place them in a relatively cool area.
3. Protection against extreme heat and frost
First, because there are many varieties of this flower, different ones bloom in different seasons, so more thorough protection should be given during periods of extreme heat and frost. Second, varieties that bloom in summer and autumn will not flower well due to overly strong light. Varieties that bloom in winter and spring may be affected by cold. Third, therefore, provide shade during extreme heat and shelter from wind in the coldest winter months.
4. Pruning
First, if there are relatively many flowers at the time, remove some appropriately; otherwise, too many nutrients will be consumed. This can damage its vitality. It will affect the next year's flowering, so pruning is necessary. Second, keeping two or three flower stems per pot is enough.
5. Fertilizing
You can appropriately add fertilizer to make its appearance more elegant, and use elements such as phosphorus and potassium to enhance its fragrance. What you must be careful about is that fertilizing should be done before it flowers.
