Flowers & Gardening 0 views
If the roots of a Clivia miniata have shriveled, you must rescue it right away. First, take the plant out of the pot. Then, cut off all the roots that have already shriveled. Next, soak it in a disinfectant solution for about ten minutes. After that, place it in a ventilated, shady spot for two days. Then replace the soil and plant it again. In the care that follows, take special care not to give too much water.

1. Causes of this phenomenon

The causes of this situation are varied, mainly the following. First, the soil has poor permeability. Second, there is too much water and waterlogging is severe. The third is that there are many pests in the soil. If all three of these aspects are present, then the roots very easily shrivel. Once discovered, you must deal with it immediately. If the situation is not too serious, the plant can recover. However, if it is left untreated for a long time and more and more of the root shrivels, it may be beyond saving.

2. Treatment measures

(1) First, carefully take the plant out of the pot and straighten out its root fibers.

(2) Next, wash its roots, then cut off the roots that have already shriveled. If you find rotten roots or hollow roots, you can cut those off as well.

(3) After trimming, soak it in a disinfectant solution for a while, such as carbendazim, potassium permanganate, etc. The time does not need to be too long; about ten minutes is generally enough.

(4) After completing the above steps, place it in a shady and well-ventilated spot for about two days.

(5) After drying, replace it with new soil and plant it. The new soil also needs attention; it has requirements. First, it should be loose and breathable, drain well, and contain more humus. Also, it is best if it is sandy. Generally, leaf mold can be used. If conditions allow, you can mix leaf mold with river sand and add some fully rotted organic fertilizer. Note that before replanting, you can put it in the sun for one or two days. This can effectively kill the bacteria inside and also drive away pests.
