Now let's begin the main text:
I've been growing succulents for a year now, and my love for them can only be described as obsession and infatuation. Over the past year I've been stuck in an endless cycle of buying succulents, buying soil, buying pots, painting pots, and repotting. April in Qingdao is truly the most beautiful time of the year. Cherry blossoms line both sides of the streets, peach blossoms dot the mountain streams and fields, parasol tree flowers bloom in the villages, and wisteria flowers grace the residential courtyards. Crowds of flower-viewers stream out every weekend, yet I only have eyes for my little courtyard and my succulents
It all started with one pot of "Xiaomixing" (a succulent variety) at the beginning of last year, and now I have a small army of succulents. From the windowsill corner of a bay window growing environment to a whole area in the house's small courtyard, from just a few pots at the beginning to now over 300 pots, the succulents have not let me down. A spring rain over the weekend made them look absolutely stunning and intoxicating. Without further ado, here are the comparison photos (all photos taken with a phone, low resolution, please don't criticize if you don't like them)
The first batch of succulents after falling down the rabbit hole: Xiaomixing. That fiery red color is the correct way to display Xiaomixing
Every succulent master has more than one pot of "Jiwawa" (Echeveria 'Chihuahuaensis'). When it's in full color, it's truly super beautiful
The "Qiubite" (Cupid) I got together when I first fell down the rabbit hole. It really lives up to its name. After a spring rain, its colors came into their own
"Nana Xiaogou" (a succulent variety), a succulent that absolutely loves to produce offsets. Those who like old stems might consider getting a pot
"Nana Xiaogou" cluster, comparison photos from half a month apart
The "Xicai Shu" (also known as "Tongye Huayue", Crassula obliqua), just hearing this name makes you want to get a pot to guard the house
The "Aoliweiya" (Olivia) I got for just a few yuan, also a common variety that loves to fill its pot. Succulent lovers who like old stems should definitely get a pot
In April I got a new pot of "Xiuyan" (Echeveria 'Suyon'). After growing outdoors for over ten days, it's truly a variety that blooms brilliantly with just a little sunshine
When potted, the "Zichi Lianhua" (a succulent variety) was a plain green color. A common variety that absolutely loves producing offsets and is super easy to grow
The "Qianchuan" (String of Coins) that was cooped up all winter transformed after just half a month in the courtyard
The "Damo Funiang" (a succulent variety) grown on the bay window for half a year. The pot was too small, so I repotted it and tossed it in the courtyard. Half a month later, red edges appeared from the sun
In April of this year I got two new pots of "Hujing" (a succulent variety)
The "Sufiya" (a succulent variety) with an absolutely adorable appearance
The "Lanjingling" (Blue Elf) I got as a bouquet-style succulent. The color control still isn't quite there yet
When "Tangyin" (Kalanchoe thyrsiflora) was first potted, everyone thought I'd bought a head of curly cabbage. Now look at it - still a vegetable, isn't it!
"Labi" (a succulent variety) was expensive when I first fell down the rabbit hole - 5 to 6 heads cost several tens of yuan. Fortunately it didn't let me down
The "Huangtao" (a succulent variety) that came as a free gift was once abandoned by me in a corner. Fortunately a spring rain awakened her
"Wushiling Yu" (a succulent variety), also came as a free gift
"Hongbaoshi" (Red Ruby). Grown outdoors, even sunburn spots don't detract from her beauty
This pot of "Diya" (Echeveria 'Dia') has really been through a lot - it suffered from mealybugs and stem rot on the side shoots. Yet spring did not let down this hard-working succulent - it actually variegated
Finally, let me show off a few pots I painted myself
