When it comes to good-looking indoor bonsai plants, the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) is one of them. The Christmas cactus has a graceful plant shape and produces lots of flowers, so many flower lovers like it. The Christmas cactus is a plant in the cactus family, which means it is related to the cactus, but its growing habits are still very different from those of the cactus. Although it is easy to grow, you may not yet know how to make it fill its pot more easily.
First, when potting the Christmas cactus, it is best to use loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil. It needs repotting every other year. When repotting, you can first lay a layer of sand at the bottom of the pot to help with drainage. When repotting, you can also cut away overly dense branches to encourage new growth.
Second, if you want the Christmas cactus to bloom profusely, you naturally need to give it some fertilizer. If it lacks fertilizer, the leaves tend to become thin, and there will be few flower buds or no flowers. However, the Christmas cactus cannot use chemical fertilizers. We can put cake fertilizers such as soybean cake into a jar, add water and soak it to ferment. When a very strong foul smell appears, the soybean cake water is fully fermented. Dilute it with water 50 times and give it to the Christmas cactus once every 3 months, and the Christmas cactus will grow quickly.
If you find that troublesome, you can directly use an organic nutrient solution, purely plant-fermented, once every 7 days, and it will let the Christmas cactus grow vigorously, strong and sturdy, with glossy green leaves and abundant flowers.
In addition, the Christmas cactus is a lazy-person flower pot plant. We should water it less and must not let it get rained on. During the growing season, keep the potting soil moist. Spraying water on the leaves during the bud differentiation period will help produce more flower buds.
