How to repot a Guzmania? Detailed methods and steps
I. When can it be repotted
This flower does not have a very obvious dormant period, so it can be repotted throughout the entire year.
II. How to repot it
1. It mainly grows as an epiphyte, using moss-type plants as the potting material; add some coarse crushed stone to the bottom of its new pot to help it drain better.
2. Then take its roots out of the original pot; it is best to do this when the soil is relatively dry, so that the soil on the roots comes out more easily and the roots are not damaged.
3. Clean the soil off the roots without damaging them, then rinse the roots and remove the damaged ones. Then plant it in the newest pot.
4. Finally, firm the soil down, water it thoroughly, and place it in a spot that is neither cold nor hot to recover; after seven days, it can be cared for in the normal way.
5. After that, it needs a liquid fertilizer once every half month, and the leaves and leaf cups should be sprinkled with water often. Light should be around 70%, so the flowers will be more vivid in color and the leaves will be more emerald green.
III. Points to note
1. When repotting it into a new pot, be careful to clean only half or one third of the soil around its roots, which is enough.
2. Properly prune its old roots, dead roots, and roots in poor growing condition. The new pot should be somewhat larger than the original one.
3. Often wipe its leaves, so the dust on them is removed; they will be more glossy and it can grow better and better.
4. The soil in the new pot must be sufficiently loose and airy, with good drainage; some rough stones can be added to the bottom of the pot. Soil containing rotten leaves can be used as the growing medium for it.
