How to propagate gloxinia? A detailed explanation of common propagation methods
1. Sowing method
For this, you need to select some good-quality seeds and soak them for about one day, which helps prompt them to germinate. However, do not use too much water. After that, prepare a flower pot and put soil in it. After leveling the soil, sprinkle the seeds on top, then moisten the flower pot with water, cover it with glass, and place it in an environment of 18 to 20 degrees; germination will occur in about ten days.
2. Bulb division method
The bulb is required to have grown for two or three years and to be in a dormant state. The steps after that are: first bury it in soil, then water it thoroughly and place it indoors at 22°C to force sprouting. When the shoots have grown to about 0.5 cm, dig out the bulb and cut it into two to four pieces. Note that each piece must have at least one shoot. Place each piece in a new flower pot, and it will form a new plant. This is done in autumn.
3. Stem cutting method
Select newly sprouted tender shoots from its bulb, with a length of two to three centimeters, and insert them into fine sand or soil. After that, place it in a spot with sunlight but no direct exposure, keep the temperature between 18 and 20, and roots will grow in about 15 days.
4. Leaf cutting method
The leaves need to be robust and have grown for some time. Remove them together with the leaf stalk, cut off one half of the leaf, insert it diagonally into the growing medium, and keep the soil moist. Then cover it with glass and keep it in a shady environment, maintaining a room temperature of 25°C and high humidity. About 20 days after insertion, roots will have grown well.
5. Shoot cutting method
This operation is generally carried out in spring. The new shoots sprouted from the bulb need to grow to about four to six centimeters. After that, break off the newly grown shoots, then insert them into the soil and keep the soil moist. With careful care, they will bloom from June to July of the following year.
