Almost everyone has experienced upper respiratory tract infections such as rhinitis and pharyngitis. For example, during a cold, rhinitis and other upper respiratory tract infection symptoms are often present, and can be considered part of the cold symptoms. As the cold improves, most people's upper respiratory tract infections and symptoms also disappear, and it is generally not called rhinitis. However, some people experience long-term, regularly recurring rhinitis and other symptoms, which also makes specialized treatment for rhinitis necessary.

Although it is a minor illness, rhinitis should not be taken lightly. People can self-diagnose it. There are 3 major types of rhinitis, and it also needs to be distinguished from other diseases. Among the 3 types of rhinitis are hypertrophic rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, and vasomotor rhinitis, and it needs to be distinguished from influenza, acute infectious diseases, nasal diphtheria, etc. If rhinitis is not treated properly, it can easily lead to complications such as acute sinusitis, acute otitis media, and acute pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, nasal vestibulitis, and other infections.

Hypertrophic rhinitis has persistent and relatively severe nasal congestion, with mucus or mucopurulent nasal discharge in small amounts, often accompanied by varying degrees of headache, dizziness, and reduced sense of smell; allergic rhinitis also has varying degrees of nasal congestion, often appearing suddenly, and may have copious thin clear nasal discharge, along with nasal itching and continuous sneezing; if it occurs suddenly and subsides quickly, and can often be linked to triggering factors, it may be vasomotor rhinitis or variant rhinitis.

Rhinitis diagnosis

For patients with rhinitis, others who do not know may often think it is a cold, especially influenza. Patients themselves also need to distinguish rhinitis from influenza. If it is influenza, systemic symptoms are relatively severe during onset, such as high fever, headache, aversion to cold or even chills, as well as systemic joint and muscle aches, while upper respiratory symptoms such as rhinitis are not very obvious. When measles, whooping cough, and scarlet fever appear, early symptoms may also include rhinitis symptoms, which can be distinguished by combining other symptoms. If it is nasal diphtheria, there will be bloody nasal discharge, and systemic symptoms are severe, often complicated by pharyngeal diphtheria.
