Jasmine has elegant flowers and a pleasant fragrance, making it a much-loved ornamental houseplant. But if it is not cared for properly, its leaves turn yellow and dry up, affecting the jasmine's growth and flowering. What should you do then?

Watering amount

Both too much and too little watering can cause jasmine leaves to turn yellow. When watered too much, water accumulates in the soil, the roots cannot breathe properly, and root rot easily occurs, showing as dull, lusterless young leaves, with older leaves changing little, and new branches gradually shrinking and stopping growth; when watered too little, the older leaves gradually drop from top to bottom, but the new leaves grow normally, with an insufficient nutrient supply. If the above phenomena occur, pay attention to using an appropriate watering amount, keeping the potting soil moist but not waterlogged.

Fertilizer amount

Fertilizing jasmine is also very important. Too much fertilizer causes the new leaves to turn brown, while the older leaves gradually turn yellow and wither and drop; too little fertilizer causes the plant's roots to tangle into a ball, unable to absorb nutrients, causing the leaves to turn yellow. If the above situations occur, you should repot the jasmine in time, and usually apply light, frequent fertilizing to ensure a normal nutrient supply for the plant.

Light and temperature

Jasmine is a flowering plant that loves light and a warm environment, so jasmine should be placed in a spot with plenty of diffused sunlight for care. In summer, when it is hot and scorching, it must not be exposed directly to the sun; pay attention to cooling the room, and the potting soil must not be too dry or too wet, otherwise the potted plant's leaves easily turn yellow and wither.

Smart flower pot tip: improper care in winter can also cause jasmine leaves to turn yellow. In winter, jasmine should be placed indoors for care, and only at a room temperature of around 10°C can it safely overwinter. If the local climate is relatively cold and you do not have heating, you can put an insulating bag over the plant, give the jasmine some ventilation at the right times, and ensure it overwinters safely; the leaf-drop phenomenon will then ease.
