How do you care for a lucky bamboo to keep it evergreen all year round?
There are many varieties of evergreen plants, and "evergreen" is usually the collective name for them. Common evergreen varieties on the market today include: Aspidistra evergreen, Marian evergreen, star-of-Bethlehem, Dieffenbachia, zebra plant, and others.
Evergreens like a warm, humid and semi-shaded environment, and are common shade-tolerant green plants in bedrooms.
Method 1: Temperature
Generally keep it above 10°C; except for Aspidistra, which is slightly more cold-tolerant, all other varieties need to be kept above 10°C and below 32°C.
Method 2: Watering
Evergreens have fleshy roots and are afraid of waterlogging, so it is best to water only when the surface of the potting soil looks dry; if it is too wet, the roots will rot.
Method 3: Soil
Evergreens are not very demanding about soil for cultivation, but they fear waterlogging above all; whether planted in the ground or in pots, hard clay or alkaline soil is the worst choice. For potting, a mix of leaf mold and sand is mostly used.
Method 4: Fertilizing
Fertilizing evergreens is generally done from spring when the temperature rises to 18°C; no fertilizing is needed during high summer heat or low winter temperatures.
Method 5: Light
Semi-shade is preferable; in winter they can be kept in full sun, while in summer direct sunlight must absolutely be avoided.
Yellowing leaves on evergreens are normal metabolism; as long as care is proper, there is no need to worry about yellowing leaves from normal aging in evergreens; however, yellow leaves, remnants and some old leaves at the lower part of the plant should be trimmed promptly to avoid needlessly consuming too many nutrients.
