Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea Food Time — School Lunch and Non-GMO Action Workshop

Would you like to know how the nutritious school lunches that children in Taiwan eat differ from those in other countries? In Japan, through school lunch Koshien competitions and chefs giving lessons at schools, locally sourced non-GMO dietary education is promoted, along with passing on the gradually disappearing washoku culture between generations; in South Korea, after the presidential election, through the power of civil society groups, advocacy centered on non-GMO and school lunches was put forward; in Taiwan, civil society volunteers proposed a non-GMO school lunch initiative four years ago during the local elections, which ultimately resulted in legislative regulation.

The school lunches of 200 million people across Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, along with their cultural, policy, and social differences and similarities, all await our deeper understanding. For the first time, Taiwanese civil society groups are bringing together speakers from Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea to share their respective experiences in civil society promotional education and action, starting from the shared experiences and memories of 200 million school lunches in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.

We also ask partners who care about the non-GMO issue to set aside Saturday, 5/19, and join the Homemakers United Foundation at the Water Garden Farmer Organic Market for the anti-Monsanto movement!
