When Do Orchids Bloom? A Detailed Guide to Blooming Periods
I. When Does It Bloom
1. Based on past experience, there is no fixed period for it to bloom; as long as you care for it well, it can bloom many times a year. Because its conditions and environment and other factors all differ, the blooming times of different varieties are actually different.
2. If it is a Cymbidium goeringii (Spring Orchid), it blooms in February and March. If it is a Cymbidium faberi (Nine-head Orchid), it blooms in March and April. If it is a Cymbidium ensifolium (Four-season Orchid), it blooms from July to October. If it is a Cymbidium kanran (Cold Orchid), it blooms in June and July, and some bloom from November to February. If it is a Cymbidium sinense (Chinese Ink Orchid), it blooms from November to February.
II. How to Encourage Blooming
1. Temperature
You need to create an environment with a relatively large temperature difference between day and night. During the day, adjust the temperature to between 15 and 25 degrees, and at night keep it around 15 degrees. Only within this temperature range is it conducive to producing flower buds.
2. Water
When watering it, you should wait until it has dried out completely before watering. You should use clear rainwater to water it. If you must use non-pure water, you should also let it sit for more than two hours before use. In order to create a good humid environment for it, it is best to keep its humidity in the 60-70% range, and you can frequently spray water on its leaves and around it.
3. Light
Although it likes coolness, this does not mean it cannot be exposed to sunlight. During the hottest part of summer, you should place it in a relatively sheltered area with scattered light; at other times, you should place it in a bright area, so that it can bloom.
4. Fertilizer
It likes soil with relatively light fertility. You can give it a relatively dilute fertilizer once a month. At the same time, to make it bloom faster, you can give it some fertilizer such as monopotassium phosphate, which can help it bloom faster.
