The correct method and detailed steps for trimming orchid roots

First, you need to sort the roots, separating healthy roots from unhealthy ones. As long as there are more than four good roots, you can remove all the other rotten roots. At the same time, remove its leaf sheaths, otherwise many parasites will hide inside them. Some broken roots that are still fairly fresh do not need to be trimmed.

1. Sorting the roots

Use a sterilized sharp tool to remove its diseased roots and rotten roots. For plants with relatively few roots, you cannot remove too many; you can only peel off the root skin, and the central column should be kept. As long as it has more than four good roots, all its other rotten roots can be removed.

2. Cleaning the sheaths

If its leaf sheaths are not removed in time, many insects will certainly parasitize them, so they must be cleaned carefully to make its leaves cleaner. The dried-up pseudobulbs should also be removed together, but you must be careful not to damage its leaf buds or flower buds.

3. Trimming the roots

1. First, sterilize sharp tools such as scissors, and separate its healthy parts from the diseased plant so that it can be trimmed better.

2. Use different sharp tools for healthy and unhealthy plants, so that they will not infect each other.

3. Remove its hollow roots, rotten roots, broken roots or shriveled roots. Note that if the solid central column of the root can be kept, keep it as much as possible.

4. If a broken root is fairly fresh, there is no need to remove it, and some black roots that are solid also do not need to be removed.

4. Points to note

First, whether to water it with rooting water should be decided according to the condition of its roots, the weather conditions and the moisture level of the soil.

Second, while trimming its roots, also remove its leaves that have normally withered.

Third, thoroughly clean away its diseased leaves. For leaves with disease in the leaf center, you can use a small tool to pierce through the diseased spots, then treat them with medicine, and after new leaves grow, cut them off.
