What to Do When the Green Abacus Plant Drops Its Leaves? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
The surrounding temperature may be too high or too low, so place it in a cool area to help it recover. It may have been kept in a bright or dark spot for too long, so move it to a semi-shaded area and gradually adjust the temperature for it. The humidity may be unsuitable, so mist its leaves regularly with clean water. It may be lacking fertilizer, so feed it with a fertilizer containing a mix of elements.

1. Ensure a Suitable Temperature

1) Causes

Its leaf drop may be because the weather does not quite suit its needs, and the surrounding temperature does not match its growth requirements, so its leaves fall off.

2) Solutions

Place it in a relatively cool area to help it recover; it needs a temperature of around 20 degrees during the day and around 18 degrees at night. In midsummer, it is best to keep the surrounding temperature below 27 degrees; if the temperature is especially high, provide shade for it and sprinkle some water on its leaves and the area around it. When it gets through the harsh winter, its temperature must not be lower than 8 degrees, otherwise it will suffer frost damage.

2. Ensure Semi-Shaded Light

1) Causes

Although this plant likes light, it can also tolerate cloudy days; if it is often placed in strong light or kept in a dark area for long periods, its leaves will easily drop.

2) Solutions

Move it to a semi-shaded area as soon as possible and adjust the temperature for it gradually; do not let there be a sudden big temperature difference. It is best to place it on a balcony or by a window to receive diffused light. In the harsh winter, you can place it in a relatively high spot so it gets more light.

3. Ensure Humidity

1) Causes

It likes relatively humid areas; if the moisture in the air exceeds 85% or is lower than 70%, it will not get enough moisture, and if the air is too dry, it will drop its leaves.

2) Solutions

If it is kept at home, you can regularly mist it with relatively clean water to increase humidity and help its leaves keep their shape.

4. Ensure Fertilizer

1) Causes

This plant grows relatively quickly, so it needs enough nutrients to meet its growth needs. If it is not given enough nutrients during its growing period, its leaves will drop because the lack of nutrients means they cannot maintain their basic physiological needs.

2) Solutions

Feed it with a fertilizer mixed from nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and the like, or at ordinary times use relatively low-concentration fertilizer water instead of clean water.
