What to do if the Peace Lily tree grows too tall? A few methods to handle it

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
If it grows too tall, you should prune it right away; it can be pruned all year round. In spring, when the temperature is around 20 degrees, you can cut its overly long branches shorter, or pinch off the growing tips, to temporarily hold back its growth. In normal care, note that it needs to be kept warm in harsh winter, shaded in extreme summer heat, and frequently sprayed with water to keep it moist.

I. How to handle it growing too tall

Generally, if it grows too tall, it needs to be pruned; it can be pruned at any time throughout the whole year. Especially in spring and autumn, pruning it at these times lets it quickly grow new branches. In summer, when its growth rate is slower, it will not quickly grow new buds because of the effects of temperature and light.

1. Cut off overly long branches

In spring, when the temperature is around 20 degrees, you can cut some of its branches shorter, then tidy up its shape; this lets its branches grow more abundantly. But note that when pruning, you should stay somewhat away from its buds, otherwise it will lose water and then dry up, and the cut must be smooth, not torn open.

2. Pinch off growing tips to hold back growth

If it has grown too tall, you can pinch off its growing tips and cut off its excess branches and leaves; this way it can keep its shape and avoid becoming ugly from growing too tall.

II. Notes on daily care

1. It is suited to living at temperatures of 20-30 degrees; its small trees cannot tolerate lower temperatures very well, so in winter it must not go below 5 degrees. Be sure to keep it warm and do not let it get frostbitten.

2. It normally needs some light, and it is fairly tolerant of shade; under fairly shady conditions it grows even faster. If it has already lived for about ten years, give it enough light, and provide shade in summer, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and drop.

3. The soil it is planted in must be moist enough, but there must not be too much water; frequently spray water on its leaves and around them. Especially in autumn and winter, use spraying instead of watering.

4. Use loose, breathable soil with good drainage for it. Small trees need a new pot every year, large trees every two years. During its growth period, frequently loosen the soil to make it softer, so that it can grow even better.
