If a soil-grown anthurium develops root rot, it is mostly caused by root rot disease. First, the rotten roots must be cut off and then disinfected. After that, some chemicals can be sprayed, such as metalaxyl. If a water-grown anthurium develops root rot, the most likely cause is a water quality problem. The first thing to do is likewise to cut off the rotten roots and disinfect them. Then, change the water frequently; the requirements differ by season. The water level also needs attention: about one third of the container. When necessary, measures can be taken to increase the oxygen content in the water.

1. For soil-grown plants

(1) Causes of root rot: It is very likely that the plant has contracted "root rot disease." It is mainly a disease caused by harmful pathogens and the like. It occurs more frequently in May. This is especially true when the environmental humidity is very high and water accumulation is common.

(2) Solutions: First, cut off the rotten parts, then treat its roots with a disinfectant solution. Next, some chemicals need to be sprayed, such as metalaxyl, applied to the roots. In the subsequent care, attention must be paid to controlling the amount of water. In addition, ventilation is also very important.

2. For water-grown plants

(1) Causes of root rot: For water-grown plants, the causes are somewhat different. The main cause is a water quality problem: the water has not been changed for a long time.

(2) Solutions: First, as in the previous case, all the rotten parts must be cut off, then soak them in a disinfecting solution for about half an hour. After that, the water must be changed frequently. In summer, the water needs to be changed most often, once every two or three days. In spring and autumn, once every five to seven days is fine. In winter, the frequency is the lowest, about once every seven to ten days. When changing the water, pour out all the old water, rinse the container, and then refill it. Also, pay attention to the amount of water poured in. Too full will lead to low oxygen content, while too little will mean insufficient water. Generally, filling the container one third full is enough. You can shake the bottle from time to time so that it contains more oxygen.
