Fennel is a tiny little seasoning. It is not as essential to daily life as oil, salt or soy sauce, but in fact it is a hidden master of Chinese medicine right in your kitchen, and it is anything but vague when it comes to pulling out the root of an illness.

Many people suffer from insomnia, and fennel can be used to make a little sleep-aid formula.

Materials:

Fennel, table salt, a sachet

Method:

Take a handful of fennel and put it into the sachet, then pour in table salt equal to half the amount of the fennel. Seal the opening and shake it well. Place the sachet beside your pillow when you sleep at night, and it can help you sleep.

Principle:

Although fennel is a pungent seasoning, if you smell its scent carefully, you will find it is a relatively soothing fragrance. This is because fennel contains volatile oils such as anethole and fenchone, and these substances have a certain calming effect on our mind, which in turn can treat insomnia.

Mixing in a certain amount of salt is to prevent moisture and insects. Because the air we exhale when breathing contains a large amount of water, over time it will make the sachet damp and prone to spoiling and breeding bacteria. Table salt, however, can help it stay fresh and preserve it. Working together, the two care for a good night's sleep. When sleep is good, both spirit and mood can be in a relatively good state.

Do you think fennel can only treat insomnia? Then you are underestimating it.

01

Relieve shoulder and neck pain

Take 1 liang of fennel seeds and heat them with raw salt in a pan, then make a small cloth bag and apply it to the neck, 30 minutes, 2 times a day. This hot compress bag is very handy; it can also be used for stomach pain, and for frozen shoulder, and applied to the navel it can also tonify the kidneys.

02

Prevent osteoporosis

A research result shows that eating fennel can prevent the loss of bone minerals and the development of osteoporosis. This is because fennel can reduce the number of osteoclasts, thereby exerting a protective effect on the bones.

03

Protect the liver and benefit the gallbladder

The fennel oil volatilized from fennel can promote the regeneration of liver tissue cells. For people with liver diseases, it can effectively inhibit the reproduction and growth of diseased liver cells and promote the reproduction and regeneration of normal liver cells. The various nutrients in fennel and its unique fennel oil can promote bile secretion, increasing the proportion of solid components in bile, thereby achieving a gallbladder-protecting effect.

04

Regulate qi and harmonize the stomach

For those with stomach cold and vomiting, poor appetite, or distending pain in the epigastrium, it can be used in combination with dried ginger, costus root, etc. For patients with chronic gastritis or gastric and duodenal ulcers who show symptoms such as cold pain in the epigastrium, preference for warmth, and aversion to cold with cold limbs, take 100 grams of fennel and 200 grams of ginger, pound them together, then fry until yellow and grind into powder, and take 10 grams of the medicine morning and evening with millet soup.

If you have some stomach pain, you can add a little fennel when cooking, or add fennel to rice porridge.

05

Relieve constipation

The main components contained in fennel are anethole, methyl chavicol, flavonoids, etc., which have antibacterial, gastrointestinal-regulating, diuretic, cholagogic, and liver-protecting effects. For constipation, take 3 grams of fennel and 3 grams of radish seed (semen raphani) and grind them together into a fine powder, take with boiling water, 2 times a day.

06

Sterilize

Besides volatilizing fennel oil, fennel also contains the component anethole. Anethole is a rare natural plant-derived bactericidal antibiotic that can effectively kill bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae and prevent gastric cancer, while also warming and protecting the stomach. For people who are sensitive to cold and have a weak stomach, adding a small amount of fennel to meals can not only warm the stomach and protect the body, but also effectively prevent a variety of infectious gastrointestinal diseases.

07

Regulate the trachea

Because fennel has a unique odor, it can not only stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, but also stimulate abnormalities in the tracheal mucosa, thereby ensuring smooth and unobstructed airflow in the trachea.

Sprinkle a little beside the pillow, and you will sleep soundly all night; put a little in porridge and rice, and it drives out cold and warms the stomach; apply it to shoulder, neck and lower back pain, and the pain is gone. Starting today, remember to use fennel.
