Pennywort has round leaves that look very much like the copper coins of ancient times, and its name contains the characters "copper" and "coin" - because ancient coins were made of copper, pennywort is regarded in plant feng shui as a symbol of gathering wealth and fortune. Pennywort also symbolizes: reunion and good luck again and again. Today, the editor will share with you some tips on caring for pennywort.

 Super simple planting method

●

Prepare a container without drainage holes - a porcelain pot, a fish tank, or even a plastic pot will all work.

●

Prepare a mother pennywort plant for division.

●

Mix garden soil + a small amount of sandy soil + a small amount of organic fertilizer to make the growing medium. Divide the soil into two portions; spread one portion on the bottom of the pot and smooth it out so you can place the roots next.

●

Take the mother plant out of its pot and separate some roots from the base, cutting them off with scissors.

● Be gentle to avoid damaging the roots

● Tidy up the cut roots.

●

Spread them out flat, with the leaves facing the same direction.

● Use scissors to cut off the leaves evenly, leaving about three centimeters at the base.

● Pour the remaining half of the soil into the pot and smooth it level.

●

Use a fine spray bottle to mist with water for better absorption.

● Spray a few times and wait for the water to seep in, then continue until the water in the pot seeps through more slowly and there is a slight accumulation of water.

● Move the pot to a ventilated, semi-shaded spot. When the water evaporates, top it up promptly, and within less than a week new leaves will sprout.

Watering: keep the potting soil slightly waterlogged

Fellow flower growers all know that pennywort loves water and isn't afraid of waterlogging - what it fears is too little water. Perhaps influenced by their everyday flower-growing experience, some beginner growers seem

afraid to take the plunge

。

These two pictures show what happens when water is too little, so the pennywort unfortunately perished. For other flowers, this level would be more than enough, but not for pennywort.

The best water state in a pennywort pot is when you can faintly see standing water - an obvious layer. More is fine, but not less.

 How about growing pennywort hydroponically?

Many friends have heard that hydroponic pennywort is especially easy to grow, and that's indeed true, but pennywort not only loves water, it also loves fertilizer. Hydroponics lacks nutrients, so the results differ greatly from soil culture - it grows slowly, with pale color and weak stems.

So it's still recommended to grow it in soil, or half soil and half water, which makes it easier to fill the pot.

Light should be moderate - don't keep it in the sun all the time

Besides water being essential, light is also a necessary condition for pennywort's growth. Except in midsummer, pennywort is best given a period of sunlight every day, and it will fill the pot quickly.

But direct sunlight for pennywort requires

"moderation"

。

Because of photosynthesis, the leaf size and stem height of pennywort are greatly related to the duration of direct light. Shorter duration means larger leaves and taller stems. Therefore,

proper shading

can promote larger and taller leaves in pennywort,

filling the pot faster

。

Pennywort leaves have strong transpiration. The higher the temperature and the stronger the light, the more correspondingly

water and fertilizer must keep up

, otherwise it will grow very slowly.

There's one more thing that matters greatly for pennywort's appearance: it has a very strong phototropic tendency, so you need to

turn the pot often

, otherwise the leaves will lean to one side and its ornamental value will be greatly reduced.

 Yellow leaves on pennywort

●

Care environment

sudden changes

mean pennywort can't adapt, and yellow leaves and wilting will appear.

●

Watering

Too little, or watering only halfway, will both cause leaves to turn yellow.

● Environment

Poor ventilation

, stuffy air and high temperatures - pennywort will definitely have yellow, drooping leaves.

●

Light too strong

, with water and nutrients not keeping up, also easily causes yellow leaves.

● When yellow leaves appear, promptly pick off the yellowed leaves, then treat the cause, and pennywort will recover quickly.

 Other precautions you can't ignore

Pennywort loves fertilizer

, because its leaves consume nutrients quickly as they grow. Once it grows taller, its stems are rather thin and it easily

falls over

, so both nitrogen and potassium fertilizer need to be supplemented. Rice-washing water or bean-cake water can both be diluted and poured on, applying thin fertilizer frequently.

Although a small teacup looks quite fresh,

pennywort likes a big pot

, because under suitable conditions it will fill the pot very quickly. If the pot is small, the roots can't spread out, which seriously affects growth.

Pennywort needs plenty of water and the pot has a lot of mud. Many flower growers, to keep things neat and attractive, put lots of stones in - this is not advisable. First, once pennywort is growing well you'll rarely see the soil part anyway; second, pennywort roots like loose soil and fear pressure,

stones and other decorations will seriously affect growth

。

Once your pennywort has filled the pot, it will grow more and more luxuriant given sufficient nutrients, making you very happy to look at. At this point don't forget to

divide the pot

, because if it's too vigorous, even with sufficient water, fertilizer and light, it won't have room to grow.

One pot of pennywort, and wealth comes rolling in - have you grown one?
