Apple, mulberry and grape bonsai may look unremarkable, yet at the Xushui base they sell for over 300 yuan a pot and demand still outstrips supply.

1. At the Kainian Fruit Tree Bonsai Garden in Xushui, Hebei, its founder Zhao Chen successfully launched potted apple fruit trees in 1998. Before the Spring Festival in 2002, the launch of off-season potted fruit trees was a domestic first.
2. Located at the Baoding Xushui headquarters, the potted fruit tree production base covers more than 3,000 mu, with another three production bases. It cultivates potted fruit trees represented by potted apples, bonsai fruit trees and courtyard landscaping fruit trees.
3. The base currently has more than twenty fruit tree bonsai species, including apple, pear, crabapple, grape, pomegranate, cherry, mulberry, blueberry, peach, plum, apricot, persimmon, fig, goji berry, papaya, ginkgo, jujube, hawthorn, mandarin orange, mango, lychee and loquat, with more than five hundred varieties. This year it produced 500,000 pots of fruit-bearing potted fruit trees.
4. Miniature potted small fruit trees: very suitable for offices and homes. The cultivation cycle is short, and pruning requires no experience; simply prune according to the numbers.
5. This year this base produced 100,000 of these small potted plants, and more than 90,000 pots have already been sold. Next year the output of this small fruit tree category alone will be more than 1 million pots.
6. Grape bonsai: high fruit set rate, outstanding disease resistance, and its notable feature is high sugar content. Ordinary sweet grapes have a sugar content of 13%, while this variety can reach an average of 23%, making it the grape variety most loved by long-time customers.
7. Apple bonsai: ripens in mid-to-late September, reaching the market for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. The fruit surface is 100% fully red, bright and beautiful, with a well-formed shape. The average single fruit weight is 500-600 grams, with the largest reaching 800 grams. The taste is crisp and sweet, and it stores and transports relatively well.
8. Self-pollinating, with huge fruit, excellent quality and bright color, it is truly best for the high-end fruit market, artistic apple displays, and establishing tourism and picking orchards. Dahongrong apples sell for 188 yuan each at the Parkson supermarket in Beijing, making it an excellent new apple variety for moving toward the high-end market in the future.
9. Mulberry bonsai: this single one alone now sells for more than 300 yuan! Yet demand still outstrips supply! For more stories of farmers getting rich, please click the "Follow" button in the upper right corner!
