What details should be paid attention to when growing flowers on a balcony?

1
Air humidity on the balcony
For high-rise buildings around the 10th floor and above, there is generally sufficient light and strong solar radiation. When the temperature reaches as high as 36°C~37°C and the wind force reaches 3~4, the balcony air is dry, the water in the potting soil evaporates quickly, and this is very unfavorable to plant growth. If there is the slightest carelessness, the branches and leaves of the plants will wilt, or even all of them will dry up and die. Therefore, ways must be found to maintain the moisture and air humidity of balcony potted plants. In addition to watering the potting soil once each morning and evening, the leaves of the plants should also be sprayed 3~5 times every day with a sprayer (except on rainy days). At the same time, the balcony floor should be watered 1~2 times to create a small balcony climate.

Balcony structure and environment
Most high-rise buildings in cities adopt a north-south orientation, generally with front and back balconies, and a small number of high-rise buildings have single-sided balconies. For cultivating bonsai, south-facing balconies are used. If the usable area of a single-sided balcony is insufficient, you can consider adding a certain area within the range of weight the balcony can bear, that is, build a 2~3-tier stepped platform on one side or both sides of the balcony, or add a metal empty-frame platform at the front edge of the balcony railing.
When arranging balcony bonsai, consider varied sizes and proper layout. At the same time, never allow coal smoke or air conditioning to directly fumigate or discharge onto the balcony, and always keep the balcony environment fresh and clean.

Balcony orientation and light
Sun-loving or semi-sun-loving bonsai plants are generally placed on balconies facing south or somewhat east or west. In this orientation, through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, solar radiation is strong and there is plenty of light, which is favorable to the growth of sun-loving or semi-sun-loving plants. North-facing balconies have less and weaker light, but this is favorable to the growth of shade-loving or semi-shade-loving plants. Sun-loving plants on south-facing balconies need 6~8 hours of light per day, while shade-loving plants on north-facing balconies need only 3~4 hours of light per day. For sun-loving plants with a strong phototropic tendency, pay attention to changing the light-facing side of the potted plants at the right time. In spring and summer, generally change it once every 30 days to maintain balanced growth of the branches and leaves on the top, bottom, left, and right of the plant and avoid uneven growth.

Strengthen water and fertilizer management for plants
Because the balcony climate is dry, the water and fertilizer in potted plants evaporate and are lost quickly, so humidity must be maintained and nutrients supplemented; otherwise, the healthy growth of the plants will be affected. Potted plants on balconies need many times more water than those planted in the ground. In spring, water once every other day; in summer, water once each morning and evening; in autumn, water once a day; in winter, water once every 2~3 days. In short, the principle of "dry when it should be dry, wet when it should be wet, and when watering, water thoroughly" should be mastered for potting soil; adapt to the pot, because plants vary in size and bonsai pots vary in depth, so one method cannot be applied to all. When fertilizing balcony bonsai, pay attention to the relationship with neighbors above, below, left, and right, and do not pollute the environment. Usually, nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer or bone meal should be used as base fertilizer for potted plants, and decomposed dilute cake fertilizer water should be applied as a top dressing. To avoid the fertilizer water giving off an odor everywhere, some orange peel or pomelo peel can be put into the cake fertilizer water container, which can both serve as fertilizer and neutralize the odor. After application, seal the fertilizer water container tightly. Liquid fertilizer top dressing should be applied after Qingming. During the plant growth period, apply it once every 10~15 days; stop application during the dog days; after the Start of Autumn, apply it once every 20~25 days; and stop fertilizing during the winter dormancy period.
The above are the points to pay attention to when growing flowers that are recommended to everyone.
