How to grow Guzmania (Vriesea) in water? A detailed guide to its care
I. How to care for it in water
1. Water level
When growing it in water, you must not use too much water; you cannot immerse all of its roots in water. You only need to let half or one third of the roots enter the water. Also, the water quality must not be too poor; use clean water, and you can add some nutrients to the water, which can make it more robust. Besides this, you also need to pour some water into its leaf cup, also using clean water; this cup must not lack water, and once the water is low you need to add more.
2. Light
From May to October, when the sunlight is rather harsh, you should shade it as much as possible; decide the degree of shading according to the light intensity, but you must not block all the light, otherwise it will also be bad for its growth.
3. Humidity
Although it is grown in water, if the humidity in the air is insufficient, it will likewise grow poorly. At this time the tips of its leaves and flowers will dry out, so you should often mist some water near it to raise the humidity.
4. Environment
When you change its water, you also need to wash clean the attachments on its roots, and the bottle should also be scrubbed, then add new water and nutrients for it.
II. Points to note
1. From late spring to early autumn is its growing period; at this time you should appropriately increase the water level, and you can add more clean water to its leaf tube. You should change its water once every half a month, otherwise the water easily turns foul.
2. When it flowers in winter, you do not need to add water to the leaf cup, and you should place it in an area without light, which can make its flowering period longer. After its flowers fade, you can cut off its flower stalk, so that the nutrients will not be consumed so quickly.
