How to care for Bougainvillea during its flowering period? Learn the correct care methods
1. Light
This plant is by nature extremely light-loving, let alone during its flowering period. Throughout the entire flowering period, it can stay in a well-lit location for extended periods. Don't worry that strong light exposure will harm it. On the contrary, after strong light exposure, its flowering period can last even longer. In addition, the flower colors are deeper and the quantity is greater.
2. Pruning
This plant grows and develops extremely fast, so it needs regular pruning and pinching. The timing is generally concentrated in spring and summer; after August, it should no longer be done. It's best to do one pinching before the flowering period. Only then can it bloom better and in greater numbers.
3. Water
The main thing is water withholding. About four to five weeks before the flowering period (roughly mid-August), you need to start. After one watering, wait until the leaves droop before watering again. The extent is just enough not to let the plant die from drought. Once the flower primordia form between the branches, you can resume normal watering. This practice is to increase the concentration of fluids within the cells, so as to promote more flower bud differentiation.
4. Fertilizing
During the flowering period, the plant is very sensitive to urea. If too much is used, branches and leaves will flourish but there will be few flowers. Generally, during the flowering period, you can use a 0.2% to 0.3% concentration (KH2SO4) solution as a foliar top dressing, once every half month. In addition, you can also use some liquid fertilizer. After the flowering period, you can continue using urea-based fertilizers.
