How long does it generally take for a kalanchoe cutting to take root after propagation?
1. Water propagation: roots in seven days
Different propagation methods actually produce different rooting speeds. If you use water propagation, it can quickly grow roots. The advantage of this method is that the rooting speed is very fast, but the roots that grow will be rather fragile, and the recovery speed will also be very slow. If its roots get damaged while you are transplanting it, it will need a second round of rooting. Water propagation means putting its leaves in a container filled with water, and after seven days, it will grow roots.
2. Sand propagation: roots in half a month
1. This method also has a fast rooting speed, and its recovery speed is also fast. Flowers grown this way basically will not collapse, so it has many advantages, and this method is very easy to use. For the sand, fine river sand is recommended. Cut off 5 or 6 cm of its nearly mature stem, then insert it into the sand, water it thoroughly, then cover it with plastic film, keeping the nearby temperature at 15 to 20 degrees. After half a month, it will grow roots.
2. If the number of seedlings you need is not very large, you can also use its leaves for sand propagation. Cut off very healthy and sturdy leaves, then wait until the wounds are dry before placing them in the sand, keeping the humidity moderate. After ten days to half a month, roots will grow from the base of the leaves, and then new plants will grow.
3. Soil propagation: roots in two weeks
If you use the method of inserting it directly into soil, it can survive as long as roots grow, and it does not need to be transplanted again. However, this method has a very slow rooting speed, and the roots that grow are very prone to turning black and rotting. Still, this method is very simple. Cut off 5 or 6 cm of its healthy terminal bud, wait until the wound dries, then insert it into the soil, keep the humidity good, and after two weeks it will grow roots. At this point you can start adding fertilizer for it.
