How to effectively deal with aphids on bougainvillea
1. Principles to follow when killing pests
We all know that using insecticides and the like is harmful to people's health. And they will also do more or less some harm to the plant. So, in general, we should try not to use these chemicals, and it is best to use green methods. Only use them when the numbers are truly too many and you have no choice.
2. Dealing with different situations
(1) When there are few: in this case, you do not need insecticides at all, bare hands are enough. If the pests happen to be concentrated on a few branches, you can simply cut them off. If they are more scattered, brush them off with a small brush. However, note that it is best to also cut off the branches the insects have crawled over, to avoid spreading. This method is relatively eco-friendly, but sometimes it does not apply.
(2) When there are quite a lot: if it is not too serious, you can use a homemade insecticide. Specifically, soak tobacco in water and add some dish soap to it. Soak it for a day, then spray it on the aphids. You can also soak cigarette butts in hot water. Once made, use it to spray the insects. This way, you can get good results and there is no harm either.
(3) When there are a very large number: if there are truly too many, then the homemade one will not be effective enough. At this point, you can only use insecticides. However, note that if you use only one kind, the insects will easily develop resistance. So, alternating between two or three is best.
