Orchids should be grown the frugal way, with a cheap ingredient added: lush leaves, brilliant flowers, and no pests, a blessing for us orchid growers.

Orchids should be grown the frugal way, but most orchid growers have been foolish. They always think that as long as it is an orchid they like, it is worth spending a little money on orchid growing medium, special orchid fertilizer, orchid insect repellent, and so on. Little do they know that growing orchids is a bottomless pursuit. Once you have more orchids to care for, after a few years you have spent a lot of effort and a lot of money. In the end, the orchids still are not grown well. They keep thinking about giving the orchids the best so they will produce the most beautiful flowers and grow the most beautiful leaves, which is the rich way of growing them.

But some orchid growers do not spend money on orchid growing medium, orchid fertilizer, insect repellent, and so on, yet the orchids they grow are not bad at all. Moreover, orchids grown the frugal way actually grow like crazy, with lush leaves and brilliant flowers, and they do not attract pests either. The secret is adding a cheap ingredient, or one that costs nothing at all. Here, I will analyze this in detail.

First, bury oil at the edge of the pot, and the flowers grow like crazy. Oil contains many nutrients, and for orchids, clivia (Clivia miniata), Chinese roses (Rosa chinensis), and other flowers and plants that like oil-based fertilizer, it is an excellent flower fertilizer. How to use: take half a spoonful of oil; you can use waste oil from a range hood, or you can also use sesame oil, etc. Poke a few small holes away from the roots, carefully pour the oil in, then cover it with soil. Seedlings and weak orchids cannot use this, as it easily burns the roots. Only vigorous plants can use it. Also, it cannot be used often; generally, using it once every 3 to 6 months is enough!

Second, bury sulfur powder at the edge of the pot, and no pests will come. Do your flowers have bugs? Whatever they are, scale insects, ants, small centipedes, red spider mites... hurry up and bury a little sulfur powder at the edge of the pot, and the problem is guaranteed to be solved! How to use: pinch a small amount of sulfur powder with your hand (wearing disposable gloves) and sprinkle a ring of it along the edge of the pot. If the flower pot temporarily has no bugs, just sprinkle a little on the soil surface. If there are many bugs, it is recommended to dig a few small holes along the edge of the pot and bury part of it in.

Third, bury bone meal at the edge of the pot, and the plant grows strong. An orchid that grows too weak does not look good, with small, thin leaves and a sickly look; you really fear a gust of wind will snap it. Hurry up and bury a little bone meal at the edge of the pot, and in one month it will grow into a "strongman" among plants! How to use: the bones must be salt-free; dry them in the sun and grind them into powder before use. Sprinkle the bone meal at the edge of the pot, or dig a small hole and bury it in. Generally, use it 2 times per month.
