Gardenia just bought, yellow leaves and dropping flower buds - find the cause and learn one trick to solve it

Gardenias are really quite easy to keep alive. Just pinch off a branch and soak it in water and it takes root. Back in the countryside when I was a kid, growing gardenias was even simpler - just cut a few branches, stick them into the mud beside the rice paddies, and then leave them alone. A few months later you have a gardenia, pull it up and plant it and that's it. A relative had a pot of gardenia that they kept for over ten years, like a little flowering tree. The gardenia fragrance filling the whole yard is especially alluring.
But nowadays many friends buy their gardenias from flower shops, and they often run into yellowing leaves, leaf drop and flower buds dropping off. What exactly is going on? Today let's talk about it.
1. If the gardenia was bought from a flower shop greenhouse, it needs to adapt to a new environment. The environment inside a greenhouse is relatively humid and stable, while our homes are drier and the temperature goes up and down, not as stable and comfortable as before. Losing a few leaves, if it is not too many, is normal.
2. A gardenia we have just bought cannot be put directly in the sun. It needs to be placed in a spot with diffused light and good ventilation. After about ten days or so, then give it sun. Normally it can get 4 to 6 hours of light, and do not expose it to harsh sun either.
3. Most of the potting soil of a newly bought gardenia is yellow clay soil, which does not soak through when watered and does not hold water either. So we can use the soaking method to water the gardenia. Wait until it finishes flowering, then repot it. The potting soil should be loose and breathable, with an appropriate addition of one part pine needle soil, which can make the soil slightly acidic and is good for the gardenia's growth.
4. If the gardenia does not bloom or blooms little, you need to prune and pinch the tips of the gardenia to let its branches mature. Mature branches are the ones that flower.
